Calthorpe House Scoops Sustainability Award

December 2008

The sustainability credentials of the Calthorpe House office development in Edgbaston have been further endorsed with a recent award win.

Calthorpe Estates was presented with the ‘Sustainable Development of the Year’ award for the £40m Grade A building at the West Midlands Insider Property Awards, in a ceremony held at the NEC Hilton Metropole.

Already one of the first buildings in Birmingham to achieve an environmental BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’, the 105,600 sq ft scheme was selected as a result of its ecological and environmental focus at all stages of development; from inception and construction to subsequent usage.

Judges congratulated the property investor and developer for its continued commitment to sustainability: “Calthorpe Estates continues to show it is pioneering in sustainable development. Sustainability is not only top of Calthorpe Estates’ agenda – it puts its words into action.”

This is the second time Calthorpe Estates has been noted for its commitment to sustainability by the West Midlands Insider Property Awards, winning in the same category last year with its £2.2m contemporary office building at 19 George Road.

David Povall, commercial director at Calthorpe Estates, said: “Winning this award is great recognition for the team at Calthorpe Estates.

“This clearly acknowledges the fact that sustainability has been core to the ethos of Calthorpe Estates for nearly 300 years and will continue to be the driving force behind our developments.

“It also further secures Calthorpe House’s place as one of the most sustainable buildings in the city, helping to set the standard for other commercial schemes in Birmingham.”

The green credentials of Calthorpe House have also been recently recognised with the scheme being the only development outside London to be shortlisted in the ‘Office Development of the Year’ category of the Estates Gazette Green Awards.

Planned for completion in Spring 2009, Calthorpe House will offer open plan floor plates of up to 22,000 sq ft.
