Showcase of Excellence in Edgbaston
September 2009
Award-winning property developer and investor Calthorpe Estates hosted a showcase of excellence demonstrating why Edgbaston is the best place to live and work.
Over 150 invited guests experienced the best in class the area has to offer in the surroundings of the latest edition to the Birmingham skyline, the new £40 million Calthorpe House office development prominently situated near Five Ways Island.
Jayne Herritty, sales and marketing director for Calthorpe Estates explained: “Whilst Calthorpe House has been built with the environment and sustainability in mind; we never lost focus from our core ethos of creating the best possible place to live and work.
“Buildings are built for people but the surrounding environment is just as, if not more, important. Edgbaston offers an unrivalled location with highly sought-after residential properties, first class educational institutions, outstanding healthcare facilities, a Michelin-starred restaurant, diverse cultural attractions and international sporting destinations; all on the doorstep.
“This event was designed as an opportunity to experience some of the best the area has to offer as well as a celebration of our achievement with Calthorpe House.”
The exclusive showcase included musical entertainment from Midlands based Celebration String Quartet, whose experience includes performing with the CBSO and Birmingham Royal Ballet. Displays of Spanish dance, choreographed by eminent flamenco specialist Ana Garcia, were performed by students of the world renowned Elmhurst School for Dance, situated in Edgbaston.
Rising culinary stars of University College Birmingham provided a ‘Best of Birmingham’ themed menu, specially designed by Andreas Antona of the Michelin-starred restaurant Simpsons in Edgbaston, with dishes including faggots & peas and chicken balti.
Following a formal welcome and introduction to the building, guests heard from Dr Andrew Sentance, member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England; before Dr Phil Hammond, GP, writer and comedian, closed with a talk offering a lighter look on life.
The 107,044 sq ft Calthorpe House is the latest addition to Calthorpe Estates’ impressive portfolio and one of the first in Birmingham to achieve an environmental BREEAM* rating of ‘Excellent’.
David Povall, commercial director for Calthorpe Estates, added: “Calthorpe House is a Grade A sustainable landmark development at a prominent gateway to the city.
“We are extremely proud of the building, in particular its truly green credentials which offer occupiers significant cost savings with annual reductions in electricity, carbon emissions and water usage.
“This event perfectly showcased the building as well as the excellent environment and lifestyle Edgbaston offers.”
